Mike,
I live in Charlottesville, Virginia, and ride year round. In winter, I wear leather riding boots with merino wool hiking socks, and Jeans with polypropilene or capilene lightweight underwear bottoms underneath. Up top I wear a synthetic Motorport Canyon Jacket with liner, as well as a MountainHardwear windstopper vest, then any old shirt underneath. I wear my year round gloves with fleece liners underneath and disposible handwarmers underneath those when necessary. (My hands suffer most in winter on the bike). This year I'm also retrofitting MSR nylon/plastic strap-on mud guards in front of the hand-grips to help deflect the wind off my hands. I also wear a lightweight windstoppper Balaclava from Manzella under my full-face helmet. The whole gettup works well and keeps my limbs properly pliable. I hope that helps.

-Doug
